The foundation chain is the incredibly important structure upon which you build your work of crochet.
The Foundation chain can pretty straightforward, as seen in the following video:
The real trick to the Foundation Chain is tension – and like Goldilocks in the 3 Bears, the tension can’t be too tight or too loose, but has to be just right.
This means too tight and you’ll have a difficult time building on the chain, and too loose and you’ll have an overly lacey edge. Finding just the right tension takes time, and can be determined by how tight you hold the yarn in your non-dominant hand and which crochet hook you use.
I like the Furls Crochet hook for it’s smooth glide.
Practice really does make perfect in this scenario, and you’ll notice that your foundation chain gets better and better with time.
