The Sweet Spot Shawl

I love Tunisian Crochet – and my favorite stitch is the Tunisian Knit Stitch (Tks). This stitch perfectly combines knitting and crochet and I find the repetitive movements very meditative. I’ve combined the Tks with the Extended Tunisian Knit Stitch (ETks) to create a lovely, simple and beginner friendly shawl. There is even a YouTube tutorial to guide you through the process that you can watch here:

The video will show you the basics of the shawl, including how to do Tks, ETks and the increases. The color changes and more details are in the pattern. The pattern is available on Ravelry here or Payhip here.

For the yarn, I used lovely fingering weight yarn from the Frosted Stitch in Ice Cream Sundae and The Heart. Her Snowflake Sock comes in a whopping 463 yards per skein, and 1 skein of each color was enough to make the full shawl (as long as you make gauge). If you use skeins with less yardage, you will need more skeins than what I used here.

I used my Ginger Knitter’s Pride Tunisian Crochet Set which I purchased from Amazon. I love this set because of the variety of hook sizes, including a 4.5mm which is so hard to find! I used a 4.5mm for this pattern and had the most fantastic drape!

Here’s what you’ll need for this pattern:

  • 926 yards of fingering weight yarn in two complementary or contrasting colors, at least 2 skeins (see yarn notes).
  • 4.5mm (US/7) Tunisian Crochet Hook (or hook needed to make gauge) with 22” cable
    • Optional 5 mm Tunisian Crochet Hook with the same cord for long edge border
  • Tape Measure (optional)
  • Stitch Marker (optional) for place keeping or to mark Tss.
  • Scissors

If you want to check your gauge, here is the information on how to make the gauge swatch:

Gauge:

Measured after blocking; please note that working at a different gauge than the one listed may affect the amount of yarn required to complete this pattern as written.

4” x 4” (10cm by 10 cm): 22 sts of Tks by 21 rows

I hope you all enjoy making this pattern as much as I enjoyed designing it! Please leave a comment below if you make this or are planning on making it.
