The Wrought Iron Wrap

There are certain projects that are a labor of love, and this was one of them. I finished this shawl about a year ago, but life happened and I wasn’t able to put this pattern into testing or work on the video tutorial until now. This is an intermediate crochet pattern and I hope you love it as much as I do.

I used beautiful Stellina yarn from The Frosted Stitch for this shawl, in the color Leatherbound. Now Stellina isn’t something Christa normally carries, but you might be able to convince her for a special order.

You can find the full pattern here on Ravelry or here on Payhip. For the video tutorial, I elected to do something a little different, and instead of focusing on the full pattern, I concentrated just on the diamond lace section of the shawl. You can find the tutorial here:

What you’ll need for this shawl:

  • 1200 yards of fingering weight yarn
  • 3.5mm (US E/4) traditional crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors
  • 1-2 stitch markers as needed
  • Blocking pins and mats 

Pattern for the Diamond Lattice Section:

This lace should be made in a repeat of 9 + 2

Row 1: Ch 1, Sc, Ch 3, Sk 1, *BLOSc 7, Ch 5, Sk 2*. Repeat * to * until 9 sts remain. BLOSc 7, Ch 3, Sk 1, then Sc in the last st.  Ch1, turn. (72 sts)

Row 2: Sc, Ch 3, *Sk next Sc, Sc 5, Ch 3, Sk 1, Sc in the Ch space, Ch 3*.  Repeat * to * until 8 sts remain.  Sk 1, Sc 5, Sk 1, Ch 3 then Sc in last st. Ch 1, turn. (61 sts)

Row 3: Sc, Sc in the Ch Sp, *Ch 3, Sk 1, Sc 3, Sk 1, Ch 3, Sc in the Ch Sp, Sc, Sc in the Ch Sp*.  Repeat * to * until 6 sts remain. Ch 3, Sk 1, Sc 3, Sk 1, Ch 3, Sc in the Ch Sp, then Sc in the last st. Ch 1, turn.  (61 sts)

Row 4: Sc 2, Sc in the Ch Sp, *Ch 3, Sk 1, Sc, Sk 1, Ch 3, Sc in the Ch Sp, Sc 3, Sc in the Ch Sp*.  Repeat * to * until 5 sts remain. Ch 3, Sk 1, Sc, Sk 1, Ch 3, Sc in the Ch Sp, then Sc 2.  Ch 1, turn. (61 sts)

Row 5: Sc 3, Sc in the Ch Sp, *Ch 5, Sk 1, Sc in the Ch Sp, Sc 5, Sc in the Ch Sp*.  Repeat * to * until 4 sts remain. Ch 5, Sk 1, Sc in the Ch Sp, Sc 3. Ch 1, turn.  (71 sts)

Row 6: Sc 3, *Ch 3, Sk 1, Sc in the Ch Sp, Ch 3, Sk 1, Sc 5*.  Repeat * to * until 5 sts remain.  Sk 1, Ch 3, Sc in the Ch Sp, Ch 3, Sk 1, Sc 3. Ch 1, turn.  (61 sts)

Row 7: Sc 2, *Ch 3, Sk 1, Sc in the Ch Sp, Sc, Sc in the Ch Sp, Ch 3, Sk 1, Sc 3*.  Repeat * to * until 5 sts remain. Sk 1, Ch 3, Sc in the Ch Sp, Sc, Sc in the Ch Sp, Ch 3, Sk 1, Sc 2. Ch 1, turn. (61 sts)

Row 8: Sc, Sk 1, *Ch 3, Sc in the Ch Sp, Sc 3, Sc in the Ch Sp, Ch 3, Sk 1, Sc, Sk 1*.  Repeat * to * until 5 sts remain. Ch 3, Sc in the Ch Sp, Sc 3, Sc in the Ch Sp, Ch 3, Sk 1, Sc. Ch 1, turn. (61 sts)

Row 9: Sc, Ch 3, *Sc in the Ch Sp, Sc 5, Sc in the Ch Sp, Ch 5, Sk 1*.  Repeat * to * until 6 sts remain. Sc in the Ch Sp, Sc 5, Sc in the Ch Sp, Ch 3, Sc.  Ch 1, turn. (72 sts)

Repeat Rows 2-9 as needed.
