The Rowyn Cardigan pattern is here!
If Rowyn looks familiar, there is a reason. I have been wearing and sharing this cardigan for a while, so the design itself is not brand new. What is new is that the finished pattern is now ready for you.
Rowyn is an oversized, cozy Tunisian crochet cardigan with lots of texture and an approachable construction. I wanted it to feel interesting to crochet without requiring a long list of complicated stitches. The result is a cardigan that I think newer Tunisian crocheters can feel confident tackling, while still giving more experienced makers an enjoyable project.

The Rowyn Cardigan pattern is now available on Ravelry and Payhip.

Let’s talk about that texture
Most of Rowyn is worked in the Tunisian Chill Stitch, a stitch pattern that alternates Tunisian knit stitch and Tunisian simple stitch.
I love the texture the two stitches create together. It looks much more complicated than it is, and the rhythm of alternating between the stitches makes it fun to work once you get going.
The hem, cuffs, front panels, and neckline are finished with Tunisian ribbing. That means you can make the entire cardigan using Tunisian crochet techniques.

How is Rowyn constructed?
Rowyn is worked flat, beginning at the bottom of the back panel. The back is worked up to the shoulders, where it splits to form the two front panels.
The sleeves are picked up directly from the body and worked from the shoulder toward the wrist. The cardigan is then finished with the front and neckline ribbing before being seamed.
The pattern also includes guidance for choosing a sleeve opening and adjusting the wrist fit and sleeve length. I always recommend trying your cardigan on as you work, since arm length and preferred fit can vary so much from person to person.

Watch the Rowyn video tutorial
If this is your first Tunisian crochet garment, or if you simply like being able to see each step, I created a full video tutorial to accompany the pattern.
The tutorial walks you through the stitches, construction, shaping, ribbing, and finishing used in Rowyn.

The Rowyn samples
I made two Rowyn samples using two very different DK-weight yarns.
The pink tweed Rowyn was made with Toasty Tweed DK from The Frosted Stitch in the colorway Himalayan Pink Salt. It is an 85% superwash merino and 15% Donegal neps blend with 231 yards per 100 grams.
The green Rowyn was made with Strong DK from Cesium Yarn in the colorway Ms. Scarlett. It is a 75% superwash merino and 25% nylon blend with 245 yards per 100 grams.
Both yarns show off the Tunisian Chill Stitch beautifully while giving the finished cardigans their own personalities.
As always, make and block a gauge swatch before beginning. Your swatch will help you check both your gauge and the drape of your chosen yarn.

A little tester love
My testers made Rowyn in different sizes, yarns, and colors, and I love seeing how each cardigan reflects the person who made it.
Their feedback helped me clarify the instructions and make the finished pattern stronger. I am incredibly grateful for the time and care they put into testing Rowyn.
