The Convergence Shawl

As a designer,  there are some designs that really speak to you – and that you are unbelievably proud of making.  The Convergence Shawl is one of those designs for me.  I was super pleased with how it turned out – and it was exactly as I envisioned it!

One of my favorite parts of this shawl is that it uses two skeins of fingering weight yarn.  How many of us buy single skeins and never know what to use them for?  This is the right pattern for that!  It’s also lightweight so it’s the perfect transitional piece for summer and fall.  This shawl also has the most beautiful shape with tails for days AND tassels!

I also love that this shawl is super beginner friendly, and has a video tutorial to help you get through any tricky parts.  The tutorial can be found on YouTube here:

I absolutely adore it, and even more, I love the tester versions of this shawl.  Check out #convergenceshawl on Instagram for more wonderful pictures.  You can follow me there to see any new designs I have planned as well.

You can find the pattern available for purchase on Ravelry here, or on Payhip here.

Here’s what you’ll need for the shawl:

  • 940 yards of fingering weight yarn.  I recommend one skein of a variegated/speckled yarn (Color 1)  and one of a solid/tonal yarn (Color 2)
  • 3.5mm (US E/4) traditional crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • 1-2 Stitch Markers as needed
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure (optional)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Blocking mat and pins

Yarn Notes:

This sample was made with yarn from The Frosted Stitch in her Icy Sock base which is 85% Superwash Merino / 15% Nylon, measures at 470 yards (430m) / 100 g.  It is also a 3 ply yarn. Color 1 was Toasted and Color 2 was Cafe Au Lait.

Final Measurements:

76” wingspan and 22” deep after blocking

Blocking is essential for this shawl as there is a lot of curl! I blocked mine using a wet block technique with my blocking mats from Wecrochet.com.

I finished my shawl off with tassels. If you haven’t seen my hack on how to make tassels, you can watch it here:
