Mamaw’s Log Cabin Square

Hi! I’m Laura of @lost_boys_crochet and I’m guest hosting on Serena’s blog today. When asked if I wanted to participate in the Charity Cozy MAL hosted by Noor’s Knits and Knitting with Chopsticks, I immediately said yes. Giving back, especially for the non-proift Cure Childhood Cancer, is something that I strive to do as a maker and a human being. When I thought about making a quilt square, I recalled both of my grandmothers, Mamaw Eliza and Mamaw Mary.

Both of my Mamaws were prolific crafters. My Mamaw Mary mainly did embroidery and created beautiful quilts that were works of art. My Mamaw Eliza mainly crocheted. Every single person she knew owned something she made for them, be it a scarf, a hat, a shawl, or a blanket. They also both quilted. I remember my Mamaw Eliza explaining different types of quilting styles to me, and one that she had made was called Log Cabin. My square is based off of the log cabin square designs that were shown to me as a child. A childhood memory seemed a very good place to begin when designing a MAL designed to help children.
