Hoist the Colors Cowl – A Tunisian Crochet Minis Project

Do you order advent minis or mini sets of yarn? Do you wonder what to do with them? Then I have the pattern for you! This Tunisian Crochet Cowl Pattern uses 9-10 minis to created a wonderfully blended and textured cowl.

This cowl also has two options for the back -either a seamed up back with a border or a fun lace-up back. I chose to do a lace-up back for the first version as this shawl was inspired by and created for The Frosted Stitch’s Winter Advent Box based on Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

For the pattern, I used 9 minis of fingering weight yarn at 92 yards each. I’ve also adapted the pattern for 10 minis at 80 yards each. Some of my testers made the cowl with yarn scraps, as I give the yarn amounts needed for each row in the pattern.

You can find this pattern for purchase here on Ravelry or here on Payhip!

I also have a video tutorial to guide you through the step of the pattern, which you can find here:

Here is a little more information about the cowl:

What You’ll need:

Yarn – approximately 600 yards of fingering weight yarn, in 9 different colors.  See Yarn Notes for amounts for each color.

4.5mm Tunisian Crochet Hook with 20” cable and stopper

Stitch markers

Scissors

Tape Measure (optional)

Gram Scale (optional)
Yarn notes:   I used the 2022 Winter Solstice Box from The Frosted Stitch which had 1 full sized skein (463 yards/100 gr) and 8 minis (92 yards/20 gr).  All yarn came in her Snowflake Sock Base which is 75% Superwash with 25% Nylon.  A 10 color Mini set would also work.

I hope you found this helpful and love this pattern as much as I do!

Happy crocheting!

xoxo Serena
